Ag. Gordios - A Quiet Day Between the Rocks

Updated: Jun 30, 2025

Road to Agios Gordios: grapes, sage and the smell of the sea.

I leave early - the sun is just beginning to illuminate the slope, and the shade from the vineyards is still cool. From the upper road you can see the bay - as if the sea is in a bowl between the mountains. The smell is slightly dusty, from sage and herbs that are warming themselves on the stones.

Along the way, there is rosemary, cicadas, and sometimes stone houses with closed shutters. I pick a sprig of lavender near an old staircase. It is not decorative here, but wild, with narrow leaves and an almost bitter smell.

Closer to the sea, the air changes – damp, soft, with salt. In the shop by the beach, I buy local honey and dried figs. It is my ritual: to walk back with a bag that smells like summer.

📌 What to take with you:

  • small knife for branches

  • paper bag for collecting sage

  • water with mint

  • a camera or a notebook - for smell and details.
