Sometimes, to understand an island, you need to go a little further than the tourist postcards. Turn off the usual route, where cafes give way to souvenir shops, and go where history speaks quietly .
This time I decided to hear it — literally. I downloaded the WeGoTrip audio tour “Echoes of Antiquity” and went on a short independent journey around the New Town of Corfu. This is not “new” in our understanding, but another, slightly less touristy, but incredibly beautiful and rich corner of the city.
🎧 What I saw and felt
The old fortress greeted me like an old friend - a little stern, but with dignity.
The alleys led to the summer home of Ioannis Kapodistrias , the first governor of Greece. The stones there seemed to hold his thoughts.
I walked past the bronze statue of Georgios Theotokis , and the voice in my headphones spoke not only about politics, but also about the people for whom he became a support.
The Church of Saint Spyridon rang with its dome, reminding us that everything here is not only about the past, but also about faith.
The Municipal Theatre , the Public Library , Casa Parlante – all this sounded different when you were told not only dates, but also destinies.
And then I got to Mon Repos , the green palace where Prince Philip was born. It was easy to breathe there. And quiet.
📍This tour doesn't require a companion, a guide or a schedule. Just you, the voice in your headphones and the streets that get closer with every step.🧭 Tickets and route are already included. Just download and go.
