Honeysuckle and jasmine by the fence

Updated: Jun 30, 2025

A living fence and coolness in a bottle.

In Corfu, a fence is not always a fence. It can be a bush, a hedge, a whole wall of scent. In the house where I lived, the border with the neighbors was not boards or stone, but jasmine and honeysuckle . In the morning, I went out barefoot, and all the air was sweet. Not in the sense of perfume, but as if someone cut the summer - and it smells. I collected flowers in a bowl. A little, not all. At home, I put them on steam: water, bowl, lid, glassware - and in half an hour I had a hydrolat . It did not smell as brightly as the bush itself, but ... more precisely. I poured it into a spray bottle and kept it in the refrigerator. During the day, in the heat, I sprayed it on my face, hands, neck. And it became easier. As if I not only refreshed myself, but remembered where I was .

📌 How I made hydrolat:

  • 1 small handful of fresh flowers (jasmine or honeysuckle)

  • 100 ml of clean water

  • bowl, rack or stand, lid

  • glass cup (in the center) ⠀Flowers around, in the center - an empty cup, on top - a lid (concave inward, drops flow down). Heat, without bringing to a boil. After 30 minutes, pour into a glass bottle, store in the refrigerator.
