the formula of sleep, memory and the smell that lives nearby

In Corfu, in old houses, I often notice cloth bags tied with string. They lie in linen drawers, on shelves with dishes, at the head of the bed. Not as decoration - but as part of life. They smell of cleanliness, lavender, dry air, wood.

I learned how to make them myself. Now I have three: one with rose and mint - for sleep, one with sage and lemon - for the table, the third - only with lavender.

Why do you need a herbal pillow:

  • Calms and helps you sleep (lavender, rose)

  • Repels moths and adds fragrance to linen

  • Creates a ritual of touch: you smell it when you open the closet or get into bed

  • This is a "fragrance without a bottle" that is always close by

How to do:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp dried lavender

  • 1 tbsp rose petals

  • 1 tsp dried mint

  • optional: a drop of neroli or lavender essential oil

What else is needed:

  • a piece of linen or cotton (12x12 cm)

  • needle, thread or tape

  • cotton wool or dry grass base (you can add rice)

Assembly:

  1. Mix the herbs

  2. Fill the cloth bag

  3. Tie it or sew it up

  4. Keep it next to your pillow, in a drawer, in a suitcase, on a shelf

📖 A line has been added to my notebook: "Tenderness can be sewn. And it will smell like lavender."
