Linden trees and the scent of memory

Updated: Jun 30, 2025

The old town and the spirits that are no more.

In June, the air in the Old Town of Corfu becomes thick. It is not hot, but... filled . ⠀I walk along the Venetian houses, and in the alley there is a smell - as if someone poured linden tea into the sky. ⠀This is not the aroma of wood, not the smell of greenery - these are linden flowers when they are just beginning to bloom: not yet honey, but already a slow sun. ⠀I once had perfume - Givenchy Light , limited edition. They smelled almost the same. ⠀When the bottle ran out, I tried to forget - but the linden in Corfu brought everything back. ⠀I decided not to copy, but to create my own. ⠀I collected linden flowers early in the morning, when the aroma is especially precise. I dried them in the shade, on a linen napkin. Then I insisted on a light oil - jojoba. I added literally a drop of bergamot, and another one - orange blossom. ⠀Now I have a bottle. It doesn't smell like Givenchy, but it smells like me in June in Corfu .

📌 Recipe for oil aroma:

  • 20 ml jojoba oil

  • 1 tbsp. spoon of dried linden blossom

  • 1 drop of bergamot essential oil

  • 1 drop of orange oil (or neroli) ⠀ Infuse the linden for 7 days in the shade. Strain, pour into a bottle, keep away from light.
