The road into the island

Updated: Jun 29, 2025

Sometimes, to really hear the island, you have to go away from the coast. Into the depths. Where the cypresses are tall as candles. Where the taverns smell of grape leaves, and in the silence you hear – life.

Krini is a village where time is slow. Here you can just sit by the wall, listen to someone sharpening a knife and watch the wind move the washing on the line.

Makrades is a little higher, closer to the sky. From the olive groves opens that very view of Paleokastritsa that you will remember not with your eyes, but with your heart.

And a little further on is Angelokastro . A castle on a rock guarding the sea. Not just ruins, but a point where antiquity meets the horizon.

Fields of wild sage and lavender, the chirping of cicadas, old ladies in aprons, quiet courtyards and shade - all this makes a trip into the interior of the island like a meeting with its soul.

And of course, a stop at a village tavern. Where they serve beans like grandma used to make and wine that flows as smoothly as conversation.

If you want to travel with ease, you can:– take a transfer through Welcome Pickups (the driver will meet you and go along the village route)

– or rent a car through Localrent or QEEQ to stop where your heart calls

📍This is a route for those who are not in a hurry. For those who want the trip to be not between points, but between moments.

With love, Lilia from Aegean Notebooks
