There are islands where you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Kefalonia is just such an island. There's no rush, no hustle and bustle, but there are mountains, sea, and evenings when it seems like the crickets are singing just for you.
In Kastro, on a hillside in the shadow of St. George's Castle, I found Angel Pools Villa —a house that feels like a step back in time. The stone walls, rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1953, preserve a cool and peaceful atmosphere. But most importantly, there's a sense of care: from Angela's welcoming smile to the bottle of chilled water waiting for us in the kitchen.
During the day, we hid in the shade by the pool, listening to the ringing silence. In the evening, we strolled through the narrow streets and dined in taverns where time passed more slowly. Just a few steps, and before you is a 16th-century fortress, where the wind carries the stories of the Venetians.
The house is simple, but there is luxury in this simplicity: comfortable bedrooms, a kitchen where you want to cook (or at least make coffee in the morning), and morning light that pours through the windows so generously that it is impossible not to smile.
Angel Pools Villa isn't about design or even comfort. It's about peace, privacy, and ease . The very thing we fly to the Ionian Sea for.
