A Culinary Day in a Greek Family

Sometimes, to truly understand a place, you just need to... eat with its people.

In Corfu, I didn't go to a restaurant, I went to a house. A house with a view of olive groves, with an ancient press, with the aroma of focaccia coming out of the oven like a warm embrace.

I was met by Yorgos, not just the owner, but the keeper of the island's taste. We went to the market together: we tried cheese straight from the counter, inhaled the aroma of fresh herbs, chose tomatoes - ripe as July. And then - to the mountains. Where time flows slowly, like honey.

At the villa we cooked — with our hands, with our soul, without rushing. Traditional dishes: tzatziki, crispy feta pie, Greek salad, and most importantly — pork knuckle baked in beer and honey, with herbs, in the oven, like our grandmothers did. And for dessert — fruit with yogurt and wine syrup. All with local wine, toasts and stories.

This was not a master class. This was a day when you become part of a family. When food is not a service, but a gesture of love.

We ate, laughed, tasted olive oil, walked through the groves and felt: the taste of life is here.

I recommend:

– Take your camera – the light and food here are magical.

– Don’t be afraid to “intervene” – the owners are happy with any participation

– Bring comfortable shoes – a walk through the market and the garden is a must

– Leave slowly – take with you not only recipes, but also warmth
